MJMS (Maypole Joe Memorial Scholarship)

Those of you who went to any of the first 10 LI Beltane events know "JackieBeltane" and "MaypoleJoe".  What you might not know, is that they were our (NY PPP's) original advisors and biggest supporters in 2001, when we were starting NY Pagan Pride. Our goal was to bring the first Pagan Pride Day event to the New York City area.

Jackie and Joe were there to share their knowledge, experience and encouragement. They lent their people, equipment and hands to help! We will be hosting our 6th event this September.. and Jackie still does our Harvest Circle at Pagan Pride Day!

Two weeks before our first scheduled event- the world was changed forever. September 2001 is a time no one will forget.  But in spite of traumatic events, NY Pagan Pride Day happened and Jackie and Joe created an amazing healing circle at the first NYC Pagan Pride Day in Washington Square Park.

(Maypole)Joe was an amazing person who was always there to lend a helping hand. He was generous with his support and knowledge. We lost Joe in 2002, but we want to remember and honor him each year by awarding a scholarship in his name at Pagan Pride Day.  MJMS is one of the very few Pagan only scholarships.  And while it is a modest amount ($250-raised at our bakesale at Beltane), we hope to build on it each year.
